The Body Shop Superfood Face Masks Review

Body Shop Superfood Face masks

Last year Body Shop came out with the new range of 5 different and 100% vegetarian masks, inspired by Super Food trends and beauty remedies around the world. I love trying products that other people rave about, therefore I have decided to try out some of the incredible Body Shop masks. These masks allow you to create the most sensorial at-home facial experience.

Body Shop Superfood face masks are made from the finest natural ingredients and they have never tested on animals. Masks retails for £16 in UK and are 100% vegetarian, free from parabens, paraffins, silicone and mineral oils. After trying them out I now introduced three of them into my skin care routine. Today I’m going to review as follows: Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow, Chinese Ginseng and Rice Clarifying Polishing and Ethiopian Honey Nourishing mask.

Multi-masking

While many of us have one skin type, various areas of the face can have various needs. The formulas of these masks focuses more on the skin concerns rather than skin types, which allows you to mix and match masks based on how your skin feels on the day. You can use various masks for different areas to target specific areas of your face.

Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

This mask has got to be my  favourite from the entire range. This 100% vegan tingling mask refines the appearance of the clogged pores,  deeply cleanse, detoxifies and purifies the skin as well as gives healthy glow to it. It contains bamboo charcoal from the Himalayan foothills, which helps to draw out impurities and excess oil from the skin. Moreover, it contains green tea leaves to exfoliate the skin and organic tea tree oil to help clear the skin.

This mask is everybody’s favourite, and I can definitely relate to that. After the first time of using it, I could see visible difference in my skin. I love how it deeply cleanses my skin and makes it feel softer, smoother and cleaner. It absorbs toxins as well as it makes my pores appear less visible.

You should be aware, that after applying this mask you can feel quite a bit of tingling, which is completely normal due to the ingredients. Tingling means that mask is really ”working”, however it does go away after a few minutes. Once is time to remove the mask, it also acts as a natural exfoliator and removes the dead skin cells. Overall, if you are looking for a good cleansing mask I would definitely recommend it as it makes my skin feel and look amazing.

Application:

Use facial mask brush to apply an even and smooth layer of the mask. Leave for 5-10 min then rinse it off with warm water and a cloth in a circular motions to gently exfoliate. Use 2-3 times a week, every week.

Key Ingredients:

  • Bamboo charcoal from the Himalayan Foothills
  • Green tea leaves from Japan
  • Organic Community Trade tea tree oil from Kenya.

Inspired by Chinese traditions, this creamy exfoliating mask is 100% vegetarian. Mask is blended with ginseng extract, rice extract sesame seed oil in order to illuminate, even and revitalise your skin.

As mentioned before, my absolute favourite mask is Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow. However if you have sensitive skin I would recommend you to try out the Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask. It is not as rough as Himalayan Charcoal mask and does not have tingling effect. Again, I think it is an amazing mask if you are looking to exfoliate, brighten, revitalize, and remove dullness of your skin.

Key ingredients:

  • Ginseng extract from China is famous for its skin toning and stimulating properties that help revitalise skin.
  • Rice extract helps to moisturize and brighten up the skin.
  • Community Trade Organic Sesame seed oil from Nicarague, rich in oleic and linoleic acid to soften skin.

Application:

Use facial mask brush to apply an even and smooth layer of the mask. Leave for 5-10 min then rinse it off with warm water and a cloth in a circular motions to gently exfoliate. Use 2-3 times a week, every week.

Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask

Body Shop Superfood Face masks

Ethiopian Honey from the Body Shop SuperFood face masks range is a deep nourishing mask, inspired by African healing and soothing rituals. This mask supposed to leave a skin nourished, restored and rested. First of all, the smell of this mask is just divine, relaxing and reminds me of spa, which is always nice. If you are not a fan of honey, this might not be the right one for you.

This is my least favourite mask from Body Shop range. Sadly, I did not feel any difference in my skin after I used it. My skin simply did not feel nourished, or hydrated. After removing a mask, I then had to apply a moisturizer as my skin felt quite tight. However, I do appreciate that everyone’s skin is different and maybe this mask does the job for someone else, but me personally, I did not feel any improvement in my skin. On the other hand, I loved the texture and the smell of it.

Key ingredients:

Honey from Ethiopia, Trade Marula oil from Namibia and organic Trade Olive oil from Italy.

Application

For all Body Shop SuperFood face masks use facial mask brush. Apply an even and smooth layer of the mask. Leave for 5-10 min then rinse it off with warm water and a cloth in a circular motions to gently exfoliate. Use 2-3 times a week, every week.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I loved trying out Body Shop Superfood Face masks, and I would absolutely recommend Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow and Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing masks to everyone, regardless of your skin type. I did see visible improvement of my skin, it made my skin look and feel softer, smoother and cleaner.
