Becoming active is hard. Staying motivated can be even harder. With the days getting shorter and nights longer, I have been feeling unmotivated and unfocused for the past few weeks. Even though, autumn is one of my favourite seasons of the year, from time to time I struggle to maintain my normal routine during the colder months. Everyone can lose steam sometimes, but there are few things we can do to get back on track. Today I would like to share my favourite tips on how to stay motivated when you don’t feel like it.
Firstly, I always start by creating a tidy and relaxing space around me, which wouldn’t stress me out. I usually tidy up a house, lit a Jo Malone candle, change into fresh and clean clothes. The power of scented candles during the colder months is incredible. Recharge your mind with a little meditation, self-help book or even a cup of tea and a blanket. Your space is a very big part of well-being, therefore creating a space where you feel pleasant, peaceful and safe is most important.
Set Your Goals
This might seem obvious, but setting realistic goals can do magic. Make a short and long-term life goals/ day goals/week goals. Visualise your goals, keep a track of them and remind yourself of them religiously. Keeping track of your goals and checking your progress can help keep you to stay motivated every day.
Create To-Do List
Being organized is one of the most important aspects of staying motivated. Organizing your tasks with a to-do list can make everything much more manageable. To-do lists are a useful motivational tool when used as a way to clarify goals. My daily to-do lists allow me to spread out my daily tasks and stay less stressed. It might seem obvious, but once you start planning ahead you become more organized and more motivated.
Remind Yourself Why It Is Important
Every time I feel unmotivated I take a moment to analyse my goals. I try to find good reasons behind them. This brings my motivation back and helps to stay focused. Think about why you have to do it – don’t just think about the fact of how much you don’t want to do it. If you cannot find a good answer to why then maybe you should reanalyse whether or not the task is important for you at all.
Be Kind To Yourself And Your Body
For the past few weeks I have been feeling uninspired and uncreative. It took me some time to realise that is OK to feel that way. It is hard to stay motivated when you don’t take enough time to relax and recover. Listen to your body. Take some time off. Treat yourself to a nice hot chocolate and a long hot bath with a bath oil to soothe tired muscles and mind. Lastly, celebrate your accomplishments. Rewards play a huge part in staying motivated.
Remember, that You are in control of your goals. Staying motivated is a part of success. Keep your goals in mind, track the progress and break down tasks into smaller steps. Believe in yourself!
